Silk Road Gallery, in collaboration with Bozorgmehr Hosseinpour, hosts the selected works of Kambiz Derambakhsh, Ahmad Arabani, and Javad Alizadeh – three renowned Iranian press cartoonists. From the age of 14, Kambiz Darmbakhsh began to work with Iranian publications, including Tofiq, before branching out to other domestic outlets, as well as international ones such as the New York Times and SPIEGEL, among others. He was awarded as a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters. His artworks have been incorporated into many prestigious museum collections. Ahmad Arabi is a cartoonist, author, and animation director. He has worked with Tofiq magazine since 1968. He made his first independent animation, “Ax” in 1979. Over the past years, he has collaborated with cartoon magazines such as Caricature, Gol Agha, Shargh Journal, and other Iranian newspapers. He is also associated with the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Youth. Javad Alizadeh was born in 1952. He started his career at Caricature magazine in 1971, and began publishing the magazine Tanz and Cartoons in 1990, after working with various publications. He has received numerous awards including two UN Cartoon Awards. According to his interpreter, he still considers himself as a translator of the secrets of life and human pain through the language of caricature. The Gallery has recently branched out into displaying caricatures, press photography, and comic strips, in addition to its respected photography exhibitions. The forthcoming exhibition aims to bring the art of the caricature off the page and into the contemporary art scene.
